The Next Chapter

The start of 2024 ushered in a new chapter for Becky the Bakester. After almost three and a half years in business, I opened a storefront, bakery, retail location… whatever you want to call it. I’m still pinching myself trying to figure out if it is real. 

Before the bakery, I worked out of my home (Sept 2020 - Oct 2021), Carmel’s Kitchen (Nov 2021 - May 2022), and The Bountiful Board (June 2022 - Feb 2024). Those steps along the way taught me a lot of valuable lessons and brought me to where I am today, both as a baker and a small business owner.

During the holiday season of 2023, I realized that I needed to find a new place for Becky the Bakester. The Bountiful Board was growing as a business and needed their space back. Becky the Bakester was growing and needed more space. 

One day last November, I was daydreaming about how 203 Jersey St (the home of Remedy at the time), would be the perfect spot for Becky the Bakester. It had plenty of space for a production kitchen and a retail storefront. A few days later, I ran into Angela (owner of Remedy and Root 31) at a Women of Westfield event. I told her about my daydream and asked what was going in the space when Remedy moved out. She told me that there was a business extremely interested, so I let go of my daydream and started furiously searching the internet to find new options for Becky the Bakester.

Flash forward to December, about a week and a half before Christmas… I got a message from Angela that the other business pulled out and that I should contact the landlord. I emailed the landlord asking for info about the property. Sadly, he responded that someone else was extremely interested. Two days later, I received a call from the landlord letting me know that the property was available if I was still interested. 

So I spent the week before Christmas touring the building, doing some soul-searching, and having serious family discussions to determine if this was feasible. As you all know now, we worked it out.

We spent January, February, and half of March planning, preparing, painting, etc to get the space ready to open. For our soft opening on March 14, my loyal customer base, family, and friends came out in full force to welcome Becky the Bakester to our new home. I was shocked at the reception we got from the community. It has been so fulfilling to watch people come in, shop, and enjoy our yummy sweets and treats.

I am excited about all of the possibilities of this new space and look forward to being Westfield’s go-to spot for delicious baked goods.
